Experience the Spirit Of Las Vegas At The MGM Grand
Las Vegas is home to some of the most spectacular hotels in the world. If you take a walk along the strip, you can see the sophisticated elegance of the Bellagio, the fairytale world of the Excalibur, and find yourself back in ancient Egypt at the Luxor. However, if there is one hotel that captures the spirit of Las Vegas, it is the MGM Grand Hotel & Casino.
Opened in 1993, the latest incarnation of the MGM Grand is still the largest hotel in Las Vegas, and the second largest one in the world. You can spend days wandering around the Las Vegas icon, and never emerge into the sunlight. The main building at the hotel has an astonishing 5044 rooms, including 751 suites. There are also three Signature Towers, each with more than 500 rooms, and 29 self-contained villas.
If you enjoy Las Vegas shows, then the MGM Grand has you covered. To start with, pay a visit to KÀ, the Cirque du Soleil’s long-running show at the hotel. The show tells the story of twins who embark on an epic journey to fulfill their destiny, encountering both good and evil. You will see highflying acrobatics, martial arts, astounding puppetry and fireworks as they pursue their quest. For a truly magical experience, drop in to David Copperfield’s show at the Hollywood Theater, and let the master illusionist confound and delight you. For a slightly more amusing experience, spend some time at Brad Garrett’s Comedy Club, where you will see some of the best standup comedy along the strip.
If you enjoy fine dining, then the MGM Grand is one of the best destinations in Las Vegas. To start with, try out Joël Robuchon’s establishment – this is French cuisine at its finest from the Michelin three-star chef, who was named Chef of the Century by the Gault Millau guide. If you enjoy traditional and modern Japanese food, then stop into Shibuya, which has some of the best sushi in Las Vegas. It is also home to the largest selection of sakes outside of Japan – with over 125 different ones on the list. Of course, this is just a small sample of what is on offer – you can enjoy Creole cooking by Emeril Lagasse, Italian at Fiamma, or elegant Chinese fare at Pearl or Hakkasan. Alternatively, you can experience a real all-you-can-eat Las Vegas buffet at the MGM Grand Buffet.
Finally, no trip to the MGM Grand is complete without seeing an event at the MGM Grand Garden Arena. This 16,800 seat stadium is home to concerts, championship boxing and other sporting events. In past years, heavyweight greats such as Mike Tyson have fought at the arena, along with other famous names such as Oscar De La Hoya and Floyd Mayweather. You will also see some of the hottest acts in music – for example, Justin Timberlake, Beyoncé, Michael Bublé and Andrea Bocelli are all scheduled to give concerts in 2013.
